We’ve got some news for you, Bengalureans! The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is likely to soon permit commuters to carry sealed liquor bottles on the Bengaluru Metro. This potential move comes after years of public requests. Until now, while carrying alcohol has been prohibited, passengers who had consumed liquor within permissible limits were allowed to travel, as long as they maintained proper behaviour. Here’s everything we know so far.
Liquor Bottles On Bengaluru Metro Soon?
According to Deccan Herald, the BMRCL has granted in-principle approval to this move, and it might soon allow commuters to carry sealed liquor bottles on the Bengaluru Metro. The proposal, which has been a long-standing public demand, recently regained attention and was raised at multiple forums, including a recent BMRCL meeting. Once formally cleared, the provision will be incorporated into the metro’s official rules, eliminating the need for any additional special permission or licence.
The report added that BMRCL currently bans 58 items across eight categories, such as explosives, sharp objects, firearms, tools, harmful chemicals, and flammable materials. Liquor is classified under the flammable category, as it is considered an alcohol or spirit.
