Catering Vehicle Hits IndiGo Aircraft At Kolkata Airport
On the night of April 7, 2026, an IndiGo A320 aircraft was parked in the apron area of Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport. Suddenly, a vehicle, an SUV carrying Oberoi catering staff, hit the rear of its starboard engine, causing damage. According to The Times of India, the incident occurred around 9:30 pm on Tuesday at Bay No. 51 of the airport. There were no passengers or crew present on the plane.
Reportedly, IndiGo issued a statement saying that it was an unmanned vehicle that came into contact with the IndiGo aircraft. The relevant authorities have been informed. The plane is currently grounded and undergoing inspections and necessary maintenance checks before getting cleared for operations.

Aircraft Was Scheduled To Operate A Flight
According to The Times of India, the IndiGo aircraft was scheduled to operate flight 6E 6663 to Guwahati from Kolkata airport. However, an alternate aircraft was arranged to minimise inconvenience for passengers. Authorities have also initiated a detailed inquiry into the incident. A vehicle hitting a parked plane can damage the engine, especially the cowl, fan blades and outer casing. If the damage is severe, authorities may have to replace the engine.
According to Hindustan Times, this latest incident comes barely two months after a New York-bound Air India plane’s engine was damaged after sucking in a container after it landed in Delhi. The aircraft was taxiing to the apron when it ingested a cargo container.
