What Did India Order While Watching T20 World Cup Final?
As millions of fans tuned in to watch the high-octane final between India and New Zealand on March 8. Food delivery platform Swiggy recorded a massive spike in orders with match-day snacks and meals from multiple restaurants across the country.
According to the statement by the company, the evening of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final witnessed about a 22.3% year-on-year increase in orders compared to March 8 last year. The data also highlighted the growing trend of how fans enjoy major events at home with food deliveries.

Key Match-Day Food Insights
- The highest order volumes during the match were between 7 pm and 10 pm, which were 2.1 times higher than the pre-match period.
- The orders peaked at 7:45 pm with approximately 7,500 orders placed per minute.
- Out of all the dishes, Chicken Biryani emerged as the most ordered dish across India, followed by Masala Dosa and Chicken Fried Rice.
- People also ordered Garlic Breadsticks and Paneer Butter Masala the most.
- Bengaluru, Mumbai and Hyderabad came out to be the top three cities which led the surge in orders. Meanwhile, other cities like Thiruvananthapuram, Surat and Rajkot also recorded the highest order volumes among non-metro regions.
- Cities such as Shillong, Agartala and Port Blair also noted growth in orders, expanding the reach of food delivery service across the country.
Well, it was a perfect Sunday night for us Indians, as India lifted the T20 World Cup trophy and beat New Zealand by 96 runs in Ahmedabad.
