Delhi-Dehradun Expressway Finally Set To Open?

According to NDTV, travel between Delhi and Dehradun could soon take just 2.5 hours, as the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is likely to be inaugurated on April 14. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to open the much-anticipated corridor to the public, offering a faster and more efficient route between the two cities.

The 210-km expressway will connect Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, creating a streamlined, high-speed corridor that is set to ease congestion on several busy stretches, including the heavily used Delhi-Meerut route. It is also expected to cut travel time between Delhi and Dehradun from around six hours to just 2.5 hours.

This six-lane, access-controlled expressway will have a designated speed limit of 100 km/h for cars. It will begin near Akshardham Temple in Delhi and pass through Baghpat, Baraut, Shamli, and Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh before reaching Dehradun.

All You Need To Know About This Much-Awaited Expressway

NDTV reported that the ₹12,000 crore Delhi-Dehradun Expressway has been designed for high-speed, seamless travel. It features seven interchanges, two rail overbridges, 10 major bridges, and 14 wayside amenities aimed at enhancing commuter convenience and safety.

Environmental considerations have also been a key focus. A 12-km elevated stretch passing through Rajaji National Park has been built to allow the free movement of wildlife. In addition, two 200-metre-long elephant underpasses and six dedicated animal crossings have been incorporated to ensure safer wildlife movement and minimise road accidents.
