Ahead of Raksha Bandhan, Delhi Traffic Police had issued an advisory, urging residents to travel by metro as heavy rains in the capital led to waterlogged roads. To avoid congestion, residents travelled by Delhi Metro during the festive season that celebrates the cherished bond between a brother and sister. Raksha Bandhan proved special for Delhi Metro as it clocked a whopping 82 lakh trips, the highest number of journeys in history. Here’s more to it.
Delhi Metro Boasts Highest Ever 82 Lakh Trips On August 8
As per a report by India Today, August 8 proved to be the busiest and most bustling one for the Delhi Metro, as it recorded 81,87,674 trips across all lines. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced on X (formerly Twitter) that DMRC achieved the highest-ever passenger journey of 81,87,674 trips across all lines.
With waterlogging at Adarsh Nagar, old GT Road, Jahangirpuri, and GTK Depot, passengers preferred to commute by the metro rather than ply on flooded roads. To avoid hassles, traffic-induced delays, the metro commute seemed to be the travel choice for the festive weekend. And that led to the humongous record-breaking number clocked by the Delhi Metro.
Additional Trips Added To Accommodate High Passenger Footfall
Moreover, DMRC had added 92 trips on August 8 to accommodate the Raksha Bandhan passenger traffic. An additional 455 extra were also added on August 9 to accommodate the high volume of travellers and ensure they have a smooth journey. Needless to say, Delhi Metro broke records and connected hearts!
Also, DMRC has introduced an online commuter satisfaction survey. The one-month survey available on its official website from July 15 to August 14 aims to gauge passengers’ opinions on key aspects of their commute. This includes passenger facilities, service quality, accessibility, availability, and service quality. Passengers can access this survey in both English and Hindi. The feedback received will help Delhi Metro to improve its services and make informed decisions.
Delhiites, as IMD has sounded a red alert, it’s advisable to celebrate the festival safely and avoid waterlogged roads. How are you travelling this festive weekend?
