Indian Railways is now working to make a train journey between New Delhi and Mumbai faster under the new Mission Raftaar. A train journey between these two cities currently takes more than 15 hours, but with these new upgrades, the travel time can come down to just 12 hours. Here’s everything you need to know about this.

Delhi To Mumbai Train Journeys To Get Faster

According to NDTV, Indian Railways is working to upgrade the New Delhi-Mumbai railway route so that trains can run at speeds of up to 160 kmph. The initiative, which is being taken under Mission Raftaar, aims to bring the train travel time between the two cities closer to just 12 hours! This will definitely help save a lot of time, right?

The authorities are making changes to power supply systems, overhead wires, signalling, railway yards and other equipment needed to run trains at higher speeds and make this route possible for passengers. Authorities recently commissioned a new 2×25 kV Chhata Traction Substation in the Agra division.

The facility is part of the work being carried out on the Palwal-Mathura section of the Delhi-Mumbai railway route. This section covers 84 route kilometres and around 336 track kilometres. The upgrade at this section will allow trains to run at high speeds and more smoothly.

What It Means For Travellers?

According to NDTV, Indian Railways is also carrying out signalling and telecom work along with other civil and mechanical works. The Mathura and Bhuteshwar railway yards are also being upgraded. Moreover, the authorities have set September 30, 2026, as the target to complete all the important key upgrades.

Now, let’s talk about what this means for travellers. Currently, Delhi to Mumbai train journeys take more than half a day, and these upgrades promise to provide a solution for that with a journey of just 12 hours. Plus, this will make travelling more convenient for passengers.
