Delhi-NCR Pushes For 50% Work-From-Home Under GRAP III As Air Quality Dips Further

As AQI in Delhi-NCR continues to fall to alarming levels, authorities are pushing for 50% work-from-home across public and private offices. The step is aimed at reducing vehicular emissions, which are one of the biggest contributors to winter pollution, while easing pressure on the already toxic air residents are breathing. 50% Work-From-Home In Delhi-NCR As AQI Continues To Deteriorate

As AQI continues to slip, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has updated the GRAP III rules for Delhi and NCR regions, adding two measures from the stricter GRAP IV category to strengthen pollution control. According to Hindustan Times, as part of the changes, the advice to enforce 50% work-from-home in all government and private offices has been shifted from GRAP Stage 4 to Stage 3. This comes under the November 21 notification by the CAQM.

Acting on the revised guidelines, on Saturday, the Delhi government has advised private offices to function with only 50% staff on-site, with the rest working from home. Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said the administration is enforcing pollution-control measures with “full seriousness” and continuous monitoring. Delhi has also rolled out staggered timings for MCD and GNCTD offices to ease peak-hour traffic and cut emissions and control the deteriorating AQI.

Hindustan Times reported that GRAP III has been in force in Delhi since November 11. The CAQM usually invokes GRAP IV when the average daily value of AQI hits the 400-mark. While Delhi’s AQI hasn’t currently touched the mark, the worsening air quality prompted the officials to make these amends.

As per The New Indian Express, the average daily AQI in Delhi on Saturday was 370. The Wazirpur weather station saw the air quality dip to 445. Not just Wazirpur, several other stations have been consistently recording AQI at more than 400.

Officials have carried out around 1,200 inspections of construction sites and industrial units, resulting in over 200 show-cause notices and 50 closure orders for violations.
