Delhi: Red Fort Shut Down For 3 Days, Lal Qila Metro Station Closed For Security Reasons

Following the car blast on Monday evening, the Archaeological Survey of India decided to close the Red Fort for tourists and visitors from November 11 to 13.

After the fatal car blast outside Gate No. 1 of the Lal Qila Metro Station in Delhi on Monday, a high alert has been declared across Delhi and cities like Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru. Following the incident, the ASI has decided to close the Red Fort to tourists and visitors for three days, while services at the Lal Qila Metro Station have been temporarily suspended.

Red Fort Closed For Three Days

According to Hindustan Times, Delhi Police’s Kotwali station wrote to the ASI’s Delhi Circle requesting a temporary closure of the Red Fort following the car blast on Monday evening. The ASI ordered the closure of the Red Fort for tourists and visitors from November 11 to 13.

According to the ASI, the decision was made to support the police investigation and ensure public safety following the fatal car blast. The monument will reopen once the investigation team completes its inspection of the site and security clearance is granted.

Security Tightened Across The Capital

Besides the closure of the Red Fort, officials have also decided to close the Lal Qila Metro Station for the time being. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation took to X to announce, “Lal Qila Metro Station is closed due to security reasons. All other stations are functional as normal.”

The blast happened near Netaji Subhash Marg, according to The Indian Express. For further investigation, the Delhi Traffic Police has closed this stretch. In an advisory issued on their official X handle, the Delhi Traffic Police announced in Hindi that no vehicles will be allowed on Netaji Subhash Marg from Chatta Rail Cut to Subhash Marg Cut from 6 AM onwards on November 11.

Both the carriageways and service roads of the stretch have been shut for traffic. People have been advised to avoid these routes and look for alternative roads till further notice.
