Delhi Development Authority’s much-anticipated plan to build a 52-95 km cycle track along the Yamuna floodplain is now finally taking shape. Its construction is all set to begin in the next few weeks after the National Green Tribunal (NGT)’s principal committee gave its final approval. Construction Of Yamuna Cycle Track To Begin Soon In Delhi
Work on the first phase of the 52-95 km cycling corridor along the Yamuna floodplains in Delhi is set to begin, and people are already excited about this project. According to Hindustan Times, the corridor will be developed in three phases, with Phase 1 covering a 24.15 km stretch between the Old Railway Bridge and NH-24. The preparatory work has already been completed, and the tendering for the project is also in place.
The Phase 1 stretch is expected to be completed in 12 months. Authorities expect the entire corridor to be completed over three years. The project will stretch from Wazirabad to NH-24 and then towards Kalindi Kunj Biodiversity Park. The corridor is planned as a continuous non-motorised loop that aims to improve public access to the river.

Cycle Track To Offer Parking Areas, Rest Points & More
According to Hindustan Times, once completed, the corridor is expected to become one of the longest riverfront cycling networks in the country. People will be able to cycle on a dedicated, continuous route along the Yamuna River in Delhi. This sounds so cool, right? Interestingly, the proposal is part of a broader riverfront development plan. Authorities plan to restore and integrate over 1,700 hectares of the floodplains into accessible public spaces under this plan.
The infrastructure will adopt a nature-based design approach. It will use permeable materials to ensure minimal disruption to the natural terrain. There will be facilities along the cycling track too. These include docking stations, parking areas, shaded rest points, viewing decks and route maps. The corridor will connect floodplains at Asita, Yamuna Vatika, Kalindi Biodiversity Park, Amrut Biodiversity Park and other zones along the river.
