Ahead of the Independence Day 2026 celebrations, Northern Railway has now issued a travel advisory for travellers in Delhi so that they can reach the railway stations smoothly amid enhanced security checks and passenger rush. Here’s what you need to know if you are travelling.
Travel Advisory Issued Ahead Of Independence Day 2026
If you are travelling via train before August 15 from Delhi, reach the railway stations well in advance. According to The Indian Express, an advisory has been issued by Northern Railway ahead of Independence Day 2026 amid tightened security arrangements and the expected increase in passenger movement.
Delhi has more than 40 railway stations. This includes major terminals that handle a lot of long-distance trains like New Delhi, Old Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar Terminal, Delhi Sarai Rohilla and Delhi Safdarjung. The capital also has smaller and local stations, including Delhi Cantonment, Shakur Basti, Subzi Mandi and Tilak Bridge.

Security Checks To Be Intensified From August 13
According to Northern Railway’s X post, security checks will be intensified at railway stations in Delhi from August 13 to August 16, 2026. Passengers should reach stations early and cooperate with security personnel. In case of assistance or any guidance, they can contact the Madad Helpline 139.
According to The Indian Express, parcel booking and handling services are also suspended at Delhi railway stations from August 12 to August 15 due to security arrangements for Independence Day. These restrictions will apply to New Delhi, Delhi Junction, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar Terminal and Delhi Sarai Rohilla stations.
All inward and outward parcel traffic will be restricted. This includes second-class luggage rack coaches, parcel vans and demand parcel vans. Parcel warehouses and platforms will also be free of packages and packing material during this period. Passengers will only be allowed to carry personal luggage in passenger coaches.
