The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) on Friday stated that women residents can continue to travel for free in its buses using the current pink paper ticket system until they get the new Pink Saheli Smart Card. Read on to know more about the development.
Can Delhi Women Travel In Buses For Free?
According to a report by The Indian Express, the government of NCT of Delhi has urged women not to panic and rush to collect the Pink Saheli Smart Card, as the distribution process will continue to grow gradually across the city.
An official informed the news portal that the government of NCT of Delhi, through DTC, has launched the Pink Saheli Smart Card for women residents of Delhi to allow free travel in DTC buses in a modern manner. The initiative is part of the national vision of ‘One Nation, One Card’, promoting easy mobility across all public transport systems.
Launched by President Droupadi Murmu on March 2, the Pink Saheli Smart Card enables free travel in DTC and cluster buses to women and transgender residents of Delhi. Eligible women residents of Delhi can now obtain the Pink Saheli Smart Card for free from designated counters established by DTC across Delhi. The government has set up around 50 such counters at different bus depots and SDM and DM offices.

The Aim Of The Pink Saheli Smart Card
As per the statement reported by The Indian Express, women can continue to travel in DTC buses using the existing Pink Paper Ticket system until they get their Pink Saheli Smart Card. Once there are enough distributions of the card, the government will gradually replace the existing pink paper ticket system for greater efficiency and convenience.
Earlier, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, stated that the card will provide free travel to women residents of Delhi on DTC buses. It will also enable seamless paid access to the Metro and other public transport services with a single smart card.
