Pune witnessed a powerful celebration of Maharashtra’s dhol-tasha tradition on October 4, 2026, as more than 5,000 dhol players came together for one massive performance. Held at Borhadewadi in Moshi, Pimpri-Chinchwad, the performance featured artists from 151 dhol-tasha pathaks, creating a thunderous sound that earned a new world record for the largest collective dhol-tasha performance.

The scale of the performance was unlike anything seen before. Around 5,000 dhol-tasha artists from 151 troupes performed simultaneously, turning Borhadewadi into a sea of drums and traditional rhythms. What began as an ambitious world-record attempt has now officially made its mark as a world record.
The performance brought together dhol-tasha groups from across the region, showcasing the energy, discipline and spirit that have kept this traditional Maharashtrian art form alive across generations.
The historic performance was dedicated to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and held in the backdrop of the grand 180-foot memorial being built in Moshi. The massive gathering added another layer of significance to an already landmark occasion.
The statue stands 140 feet tall on a 40-foot pedestal and is located within the upcoming Shambu Srushti theme park and cultural complex. Designed by renowned sculptor Ram Sutar, the statue has also been recognised by the London Book of Records as the tallest tribute and full-length statue dedicated to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Backed by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), the massive memorial is set to become a prominent landmark in the area.
