There’s been some confusion regarding the date, whether it will be celebrated on October 20 or October 21, but we’re here to clear the confusion. Diwali 2025 Will Be Celebrated On…

According to the Hindu lunar calendar, Diwali falls on the 15th day of the month of Kartik, on the Amavasya Tithi, which marks the darkest night of the lunar cycle. It holds a special significance as it marks the day Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya after defeating the demon king Ravana. People light diyas to welcome his return. 

As per a report by Times Now, in 2025, the Amavasya Tithi starts at 3:44 pm on October 20 and ends at 5:55 pm on October 21. Since the Amavasya begins before sunset on October 20, most panchang calculations mark Monday, October 20, as the day for Diwali and Lakshmi Puja.

Lakshmi Puja Timings For 2025

To make it easier for you to follow, here are the correct timings for October 20, 2025:

• Lakshmi Puja Muhurat: 7:08 pm – 8:18 pm
  
• Pradosh Kaal: 5:46 pm – 8:18 pm
  
• Vrishabha Kaal: 7:08 pm – 9:03 pm
  

Accordingly, Govardhan Puja will be celebrated on October 22. This day honours Lord Krishna, who lifted the Govardhan parvath to protect the villages of Vrindavan from a storm. Bhai Dooj will be celebrated on October 23. Just like Raksha Bandhan, this day celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters. On this day, sisters apply a tilak on their brothers’ foreheads and pray for their well-being.

Now that the date and timings are clear, you can prepare to celebrate Diwali 2025 worry-free. It will be celebrated on October 20 as per most panchang calculations. Many people may still observe it on October 21, depending on their family traditions and rituals.
