Flipkart is set to enter India’s food delivery market with the launch of its food delivery service in Bengaluru, which is expected to go live as early as August 15. Want to know more about the launch? Read on!
Flipkart To Launch Food Delivery App On August 15
According to a Moneycontrol report, the Walmart-owned e-commerce company has already begun onboarding restaurant partners across the city ahead of the rollout. The service will first be launched in Bengaluru before rolling out to other cities in phases. Flipkart is expected to offer food delivery through both its main app and a dedicated independent food delivery app.
To attract restaurant partners, Flipkart is currently offering a commission rate of around 10%, considerably lower than the approximately 16 to 30% typically charged by existing food delivery platforms. Restaurant owners told Moneycontrol that the company has already started vendor onboarding and operational preparations ahead of the launch.

Unlike typical food delivery marketplaces, Flipkart is building its platform on the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). The government-backed network will allow businesses to operate on an open digital platform instead of a closed marketplace, which will help Flipkart enter the category without building a separate delivery network from scratch.
Flipkart To Launch Food App Only In Bengaluru
The launch follows Flipkart CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy’s recent confirmation that Flipkart would enter the food delivery space through a phased rollout. He had stated that the company would first test the service with a limited set of consumers, take customer feedback and improve the product before expanding, similar to the strategy adopted for Flipkart Minutes.
Flipkart’s launch comes at a time when competition in India’s food delivery sector is growing. Besides established players Zomato and Swiggy, bike taxi platform Rapido recently entered the segment with its food delivery service, solely in Bengaluru.
With lower commission rates, ONDC integration and a phased expansion strategy, Flipkart is establishing itself as a fresh alternative for both restaurants and customers.
