The ongoing LPG crisis in India has begun affecting food businesses and households across the country. As many struggle to cope with the shortage, the continuing West Asian conflict has further strained cooking gas supplies. Bengaluru’s Iconic Vidyarthi Bhavan Shuts Operations

According to India Today, the ongoing LPG shortage across India is beginning to impact some of the country’s most popular eateries. Several well-known establishments have been forced to temporarily shut operations or scale down services as cooking gas supplies remain uncertain. One of them being Bengaluru’s beloved Vidyarthi Bhavan.

Founded in 1943, Vidyarthi Bhavan is an iconic vegetarian tiffin restaurant located in Gandhi Bazaar in Basavanagudi. The eatery is renowned for its legendary Benne Masala Dosa, along with favourites like Idli-Vada, Kesari Bhath, Poori Saagu, and rich Filter Coffee.

In the Capital, the iconic Sita Ram Diwan Chand appears to have met a similar fate. The eatery’s outlets in Lajpat Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Paharganj, and Laxmi Nagar have temporarily suspended operations since March 13. According to Hindustan Times, the outlet in Sadiq Nagar is currently functional but may also shut down soon. Speaking to the publication, Pran Kohli, the restaurant’s owner, said the popular Paharganj outlet uses five to six LPG cylinders daily, and amid the current shortage, it has become difficult to sustain operations.

Hotel Annapoorna in Chennai, while not shut down, has decided to reduce the menu offerings and even shortened their working hours, thanks to the LPG shortage. Meanwhile, many restaurants in Tamil Nadu have turned to cooking with firewood and large-scale induction stoves to stay afloat.
