Gurugram Metro Spur Line Proposal Finalised
Gurugram is leaving no stone unturned to boost its connectivity. The upcoming 1.8 km metro spur line that will link the Gurugram Railway Station to Sector 5 Metro Station is expected to reduce travel time and provide a faster route for commuters. According to a report by Hindustan Times, the proposal has been finalised. Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL)will soon take it up for consideration.
The next step involves sending the proposal to the Haryana government and the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for final approval. Earlier, metro authorities had planned to connect the two points via a skywalk with escalators, but the state government later dropped that idea and opted for a spur line instead.

Spur Line Estimated To Cost ₹450 Crore
As per the report by HT, a report by the Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) has estimated the cost of construction at ₹450 crore. Once approved, this new extension is expected to boost the overall ridership. A large number of commuters use Gurugram Railway Station for intra-city travel.
Meanwhile, GMRL is already working on a major Gurugram metro project. It will connect New and Old Gurugram, with a metro station planned at Sector 5, located just 2 km from the railway station. If the plans get all approvals, the spur line will make commuting much easier. The first phase of the Gurugram metro, from Millennium City Centre to Sector 9, is already under construction. The authorities are finalising the Phase 2 tender (Sector 9 to Cyber Hub), which also includes the proposed spur line.
