Guwahati Airport New Terminal To Start Operations From February 22, Confirms Assam CM

Good news for Guwahati people. To make flying out of the city easier and feasible, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the operations of the new terminal of the Guwahati airport to begin from February 22, 2026. Read on to know more about the development.

Guwahati Starts The Operation Of Its New Terminal


Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted on 20th February 2026 that the new terminal of the Guwahati airport will commence operations from February 22, 2026. Sharing the news on X (formerly Twitter), CM Himanta wrote, “From an open space to a world-class gateway in just a few years, this transformation reflects a clear vision for a more connected and confident Assam. Inaugurated by Adarniya Shri @narendramodi ji, the @GuwahatiAirport opens its door to the world from Feb 22.”

The official Guwahati Airport also shared the news on their page and wrote, “Introducing the brand new terminal of Guwahati Airport, where technology meets the soul of Assam.
This terminal is built not just with materials but with memories, emotions, and the pride of the people who shaped it. But the real heroes are the people who helped build it, many of them from Assam, who grew up dreaming of planes… and now help build the place that welcomes them. A terminal that is ready to welcome the future.”

More About The New Terminal Of Guwahati Airport

According to the Hindu, both domestic and international flights are likely to operate from the new terminal of the Guwahati airport by March. An official also told the news portal that the old terminal will be converted into a cargo hub. He further revealed that the ₹4,000-crore Integrated Terminal-2 building is designed to handle 13.1 million passengers per year.

Named after Assam’s first chief minister, Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi, the Guwahati airport serves as the main gateway to the Northeast and is expected to enhance connectivity, traveller comfort and operational capacity in the region.
