Parts of Delhi-NCR received heavy rainfall on April 7, 2026, along with gusty winds and thunderstorms. The rain made the weather in Delhi feel pleasant and gave much-needed relief from rising temperatures. According to The Economic Times, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi for the next two days. This means the capital can expect light rainfall with lightning on April 8, 2026, as well.

Yes, Delhiites may be happy with the rain, but travellers might be disappointed. Due to heavy rain, flight operations were affected at Indira Gandhi International Airport. IndiGo issued a travel advisory warning travellers about possible disruptions. They wrote, “Bad weather over #Delhi has impacted flight schedules. We are closely monitoring the weather and doing our best to get you where you need to be, safely and smoothly.”

Western Disturbance Behind Sudden Weather Change 

IndiGo also advised travellers to stay updated on their flight status via their website or app. The airline assured that operations will return to normal once the weather clears in Delhi. But the main question remains: why is Delhi getting sudden rain in April? According to The Economic Times, the weather change is linked to an active western disturbance.

This disturbance is bringing strong winds to Delhi-NCR and nearby areas. This is why residents are feeling slightly cold in the early mornings and late evenings. The changing wind pattern is also bringing cloud cover, which is causing isolated rainfall in the city and making the weather feel cool.
