The Amarnath Yatra, dedicated to Lord Shiva and held annually, was suspended on Wednesday, July 30. As per a report by Hindustan Times, Jammu and Kashmir’s divisional commissioners halted the pilgrimage as a precautionary step on both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes. The Information and PR Department of J&K also took to X to announce the temporary suspension. They wrote, “Shri Amarnathji Yatra has been suspended for 30.07.2025 from both Pahalgam and Baltal base camps. Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhuri informed that due to heavy, continuous rains since early morning on 30.07.2025″
Authorities made the decision due to continuous heavy rainfall over both routes. Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner of Jammu, shared with HT that the rains had affected the movement of pilgrims from the base camps. He also added that authorities will not allow any convoy movement towards the Baltal and Nunwan base camps until the situation improves.

Not The First Suspension This Year
Authorities will keep pilgrims informed about the situation. They will also share updates to help pilgrims resume the yatra smoothly once conditions improve. The Amarnath Yatra started on July 3 and will conclude on August 9.
Lakhs of devotees travel to the Amarnath cave every year for the annual pilgrimage. Authorities also halted the yatra earlier on July 17 due to similar weather conditions. Pilgrims reach the shrine through one of two routes: the traditional 48 km Pahalgam route or the shorter but steeper 14 km Baltal route. So far, over 3.93 lakh pilgrims have offered prayers at the holy cave shrine during the Shri Amarnath Yatra 2025.
