Mahakaleshwar Temple In Ujjain Introduces South Indian Dishes As Prasad
The Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, attracts a huge crowd of devotees every day. Now, these devotees will be served South Indian dishes as prasad at the temple. According to ETV Bharat, the latest addition to the menu has been introduced under the ‘Ek Bharat, Anek Parampara’ initiative of the temple committee.
The community kitchen, called Anna Kshetra, managed by the temple committee, earlier served only vegetables, roti, dal, rice and a sweet dish. But now, this tradition will change. The kitchen will serve South Indian food two days a week: on Tuesdays and Fridays. The menu includes idli, sambar, steamed rice, rasam, payasam and seasonal vegetables.
Prasad Is First Offered To Baba Mahakal
According to ETV Bharat, devotees from across the country visit the Mahakaleshwar Temple, and arrangements for Bhojan Prasadi (sanctified meal) are made for them on the temple premises. Once the food is prepared, the bhoj (offering) is first presented to Baba Mahakal at 10 am before it is distributed among the devotees at the temple.
The Mahakaleshwar Temple Committee has now assigned two master chefs to prepare South Indian food. These chefs will also train other chefs at the temple’s community kitchen to prepare South Indian dishes. Reportedly, around 9,000 devotees partake in the prasad every day, and the introduction of these new dishes has received a positive response from them.
