Indian Passport Climbs 8 Spots On Henley Passport Index; 59 Countries Indians Can Now Visit Visa-Free

The Henley Passport Index 2025 mid-year update saw the Indian passport climb eight spots. From the earlier 85, India now ranks 77 on the list, marking a major milestone. As per the latest update, India has visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 59 destinations now, and here’s all about it.

Indian Passport Gets Stronger

On July 22, 2025 Henley Passport Index’s mid-year update highlighted how the Indian passport is getting stronger. The list is based on the number of destinations a country’s passport holders can enter without a prior visa. Moving up eight places, India now enjoys easy access to 59 destinations. According to Business Today, in the last six months, India’s visa-free access tally increased by only two, but the big jump on the list marks a major milestone.

As per media reports, the reason for India’s improved score could be due to the growing diplomatic engagements and bilateral agreements with other nations. This might have helped improve travel access for Indian citizens. Experts believe that this will also help students, tourists, and business travellers by easing movement across borders.
