For frequent train passengers, particularly in West Bengal, Indian Railways is preparing to launch nine new Amrit Bharat Express trains. With these additions, the number of Amrit Bharat trains linked to the state will go up to 11, making long-distance travel more accessible, affordable and comfortable for lakhs of passengers.
9 Amrit Bharat Express Trains To Be Flagged Off Soon
Designed as modern, non-AC long-distance trains, Amrit Bharat Express services are meant for people who want better facilities than ordinary passenger trains but without paying premium fares.
Right now, two Amrit Bharat Express trains are operational in West Bengal:
- Malda Town – SMVT Bengaluru
- Malda Town – Gomti Nagar (Lucknow)
These trains have already seen good demand, especially from passengers travelling long distances for work, studies and family visits. The new services are expected to take this further.

How Will This Help Travellers?
Many of these routes cover very long distances, especially those connecting the Northeast and eastern India to southern and western states. These new trains reduce the need for crowded services and multiple connections. According to Indian Express, Amrit Bharat Express trains are reasonably priced, with long trips costing about ₹500 per 1,000 kilometres. In fact, short trips start at just ₹35 (Second Class) and ₹46 (Sleeper).
Even though they are non-AC, the trains offer upgraded facilities such as better seats and sleeper berths, cleaner, modern toilets with improved flushing systems, charging points for phones, pantry cars for long journeys, and facilities for divyangjan passengers.
Passenger safety has also been improved with CCTV cameras in all coaches, fire detection and fire suppression systems, and emergency talk-back units to contact the train manager, Business Standard reported. Each Amrit Bharat Express has 22 coaches, including general, sleeper, and luggage/guard coaches, all of which are made to comfortably accommodate large passenger numbers.
With these nine new trains, Indian Railways is clearly increasing its focus on affordable long-distance rail travel.
