Here’s everything you need to know!
Experience India’s Only Active Volcano Up Close On This Andaman Cruise
Get ready for a unique experience that offers thrill-seekers a rare opportunity to see India’s active volcano up close. Barren Island is completely uninhabited and lies nearly 140 km away from Port Blair by sea. The island sits at the junction of the Indian and Burmese tectonic plates. As per a report by The Hindu, this volcano is known for frequent eruptions, which happened in 1991, 2005, 2017, and 2022. The most recent one occurred on September 20 of this year.
The round voyage, starting October 24, will depart from Haddo Wharf, Sri Vijaya Puram, every fortnight on Fridays at 9 pm, reaching Barren Island early Saturday morning. The return leg will depart at 8 am and conclude at 4 pm, reaching Port Blair on the same day.
Travellers should note that this is a non-disembarkation trip. This means passengers can enjoy panoramic views of the volcanic island without stepping out of the vessel.
