SkyHop Aviation is taking a step towards launching commercial seaplane operations in India. They successfully completed a test flight that included landing and take-off from the Ganga Barrage in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, on April 6, 2026. According to The Economic Times, the test was conducted using a modified De Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft. It was fitted with floats, which allowed it to operate easily on water.
SkyHop also took to its official Instagram account to make this announcement. It mentioned that SkyHop is all set to become India’s first commercial seaplane operator. Their purpose is clear. They aim to improve access to places where conventional airports are not possible or difficult to develop. According to them, seaplanes can open up new routes, reduce travel time and make it easier for people to travel to remote regions. All this will, in turn, boost tourism connectivity.

Seaplanes Can Boost Tourism In India
According to Avani Singh, founder and CEO of SkyHop Aviation, in the first phase, SkyHop plans to connect five islands in Lakshadweep with each other and with the mainland. They will start operations with a 19-seater aircraft. At the same time, SkyHop is also studying opportunities in other parts of the country where seaplanes can make a real difference.
