This will be India’s second time hosting the Commonwealth Games, the first being the memorable 2010 edition in New Delhi. For Gujarat, it’s a moment of immense pride as Ahmedabad gears up to become the centre of the sporting world in 2030. Jaishankar noted that the decision reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of building world-class infrastructure and nurturing young sporting talent across the nation.

The 2030 Games will be a special centenary edition, marking 100 years since the first-ever Commonwealth Games held in Hamilton, Canada, in 1930. As per the Financial Express reports, the Executive Board of Commonwealth Sport confirmed Ahmedabad as the “proposed host city” for the 2030 Games, recognising its readiness and potential to deliver a spectacular global sporting event.

Commonwealth Sport, in its official statement, mentioned that Ahmedabad’s proposal will now be presented to the full Commonwealth Sport membership, with the final decision expected at the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow on November 26, 2025. The city, referred to as “Amdavad” in the release, will represent India’s vibrant culture, resilience, and modern infrastructure on a world stage.

India’s Bid And Global Competition

Under the new “Games Reset” principles, both India and Nigeria had submitted proposals to host the 2030 Games. After thorough evaluations, the city’s bid emerged as a strong frontrunner due to its superior urban planning, future sports complexes, and well-connected transport networks, according to Financial Express.

With another Indian city’s bid to host the Commonwealth Games in 2030, our country will surely become a more popular international sports destination. Without a doubt, it will have significant positive effects on the economy, culture, and tourism. Preparations for what might be one of the most memorable Games are already underway.
