Landslide Halts Traffic On Jammu-Srinagar Highway
According to The Economic Times, a massive landslide hit the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban on Sunday night, bringing traffic to a complete halt. The incident triggered continuous stone slides between Karol Bridge and Chanderkote. In view of the situation, authorities halted vehicles at Jakhani Chowk in Udhampur as a precaution and blocked both lanes between Karol Bridge and Chanderkote in Ramban district.
Traffic Control Units in Jammu and Srinagar have also been directed to stop the movement of heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) and light motor vehicles (LMVs) during night hours until at least one tunnel is cleared by the National Highways Authority of India.

Weather Disrupts Movement On The Highway
As per the report, heavy debris, including rocks and mud, fell onto the highway, completely blocking both lanes and disrupting vehicular movement from either side. Efforts are underway to clear the debris and restore traffic, while commuters have been advised to avoid travel on the highway until further updates.

According to the latest update, no traffic will be allowed on the Jammu-Srinagar route between Jammu, Ramban, Banihal and Srinagar until full restoration. Notably, traffic on the highway had resumed early Sunday after two days of restoration work in the Banihal sector, following landslides triggered by heavy and incessant rainfall.
The MeT office in Srinagar has forecast erratic weather conditions across the region until April 10. In recent days, heavy rain and snowfall in the valley have disrupted normal life, with several areas in Kashmir receiving fresh spells of precipitation.

Restoration may take 5-6 hours, subject to weather conditions. For now, authorities have advised commuters to avoid travel.
