This is an important update! The Jewar Airport, also known as the Noida International Airport, has now received its aerodrome licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The news means the airport is finally nearing its completion and the start of flight operations. Here’s why this licence is considered important.
Jewar Airport Gets Aerodrome Licence
According to The Indian Express, this news comes just a day after the Jewar Airport, or Noida International Airport, received its security approval from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). Getting an aerodrome licence from the DGCA is not a small thing. This development brings the project closer to finally starting flight operations.
But what exactly is an aerodrome licence? According to The Times of India, the aerodrome licence issued under Rule 78 of the Aircraft Rules, 1937, certifies that the airport meets all regulatory requirements. In simple language, the airport has passed all prerequisites related to operational procedures, safety systems, infrastructure, navigation aids, and emergency response standards mandated by the DGCA.

Inauguration Date Will Be Announced Soon
Reportedly, commercial flight operations will begin only after the Aerodrome Security Programme (ASP) receives final approval from the BCAS. Once this approval comes through, authorities will announce airline schedules, ticket sales, and the formal inauguration of the Jewar Airport. This aerodrome licence will remain valid for six months.
According to The Times of India, the remaining operational deployment and arrangements are expected to be completed within 45 days. You should also know that the airport project is being developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model in Jewar, Gautam Buddh Nagar. Once operational, it is expected to become one of the largest airports in the country.
The aerodrome licence means that flights can now land and take off from the Jewar Airport. That is great news, right? The inauguration will be done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the date will be announced soon.
