Karnataka Suspends Tiger Safaris After 3 Fatal Attacks

There have been three tiger-related deaths in just 15 days along the fringes of Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Karnataka. As per a report by The Times of India, Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre has ordered the suspension of tiger safaris at both Bandipur and Nagarahole reserves in Karnataka. Both these reserves are among the most popular in the state and see hundreds of tourists every day. Along with this, a statewide ban on trekking has also been put in place in human-wildlife conflict hotspots. This suspension and ban will remain effective until further notice.

Reportedly, the strict order came hours after a 35-year-old farmer, Chowdaiah Naik, was killed by a tiger near Hale Heggodilu in Saragur Taluk of Mysuru district. The unfortunate incident took place on Friday near the Moleyur forest range of Bandipur. Forest officials confirmed that this was the third tiger attack in less than a month. It happened along the Bandipur Tiger Reserve boundary. The incident has triggered panic among locals.
