Kolkata’s metro is getting a major expansion on Friday! Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off three new metro sections across different lines on August 22, marking a major push towards seamless commuting across the city. According to Deccan Herald, the PM will inaugurate the Green, Yellow and Orange lines in Kolkata today.

It is to be noted that India’s oldest rapid transit system, Kolkata Metro, will directly connect the airport with the rest of the city for the first time in its 41-year history. Kolkata Metro is focusing on improving direct and seamless access to the airport, long considered a missing link in the city’s network. The Yellow Line, stretching from Noapara to Jai Hind Airport, will give Kolkata its first direct metro ride to the international airport. This corridor has three stations and is 6.77 km long.
