2 Indian Desserts Make It To TasteAtlas’ 100 Best Desserts List

TasteAtlas is an online food guide that regularly ranks food-related categories. Be it the world’s best cuisines, rice meals, chicken dishes, or desserts, one or two Indian dishes almost always make the cut. After all, India is known not just for its rich culture but also for its incredible food. This time, Phirni and Kulfi have earned their spot among the 100 best desserts in the world. And honestly, we are not surprised. Both Indian desserts feature in the top 60 of the list, and we couldn’t be happier. But are you curious to know which dessert claimed the top spot?

The dessert ranked number one is Antakya Kunefesi from Turkiye. It is a traditional kunafa variety from the ancient Turkish city of Antakya. It is made using shredded phyllo pastry filled with creamy, unsalted cheese. Meanwhile, the dessert in second position is Clotted Cream Ice Cream from England. This rich and dense British frozen dessert comes from Cornwall and Devon. It has a nutty taste with a subtle caramel-like flavour.

Where Did Kulfi & Phirni Rank?

Kulfi, India’s traditional ice cream, ranked 49th on the list. Known for its dense, fudgy texture, kulfi leaves a long-lasting taste on the palate. It is usually made with milk and malai, and is flavoured with kesar, elaichi, pista, and dry fruits. Sometimes, people also add rose petals to the recipe.

Phirni, on the other hand, secured the 60th position. This creamy, pudding-like dessert is made using ground rice. Slow-cooked milk, sugar, cardamom, and ground rice give it a smooth texture that melts in the mouth. You would also like to know that Phirni is a classic festive dessert, often served during Diwali and other special occasions.
