Recently, the Rajasthan Food and Safety Department destroyed around 1.5 lakh kilograms of expired Amul non-dairy products in Jaipur. The items were, allegedly, being prepared for sale after the expiry dates were erased. Read on to know more about the development.

According to The Indian Express, Gayatri Rathore, Principal Secretary of the Medical, Health and Family Welfare Department, stated that a complaint was filed claiming that Messrs Athlete Distributor was preparing to sell expired products in the Kho Nagorian area of Jaipur. After the complaint, the department sent a team from Jaipur’s chief medical officer to inspect the site.

She further revealed that the team found a large quantity of Amul food cartons in the warehouse. The cartons contained several non-dairy Amul products, like ketchup, mayonnaise, noodles and energy drinks. The products were supplied by Messrs Advansys India Private Limited and produced by Messrs Kaira District Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union, Gujarat.

What All Items Did the Food & Safety Team Find?

Officials stated that about 12,000 cartons were found with expired dates, and the expiry dates were erased from around 3,000 cartons. There were other items like thinner, acetone, and chemicals found in the warehouse, allegedly used to erase the expiry dates. The officials also reported that Messrs Athlete Distributors and other businessmen associated with them were preparing to print new dates on these food items and pack them in new Amul-branded cartons before selling them for a profit.

As reported by The Indian Express, Bhagwat Singh, Additional Commissioner, Food Safety and Drug Control, said that the team was also shocked after witnessing such a large quantity of expired food. Upon investigation, the businessman revealed that he learned to change the expiry date on goods from YouTube.

Due to such a large quantity, the action lasted for almost four days as material was loaded in 27 trucks and was taken to a garbage dump for destruction at the firm’s expense.
