Will Rain Dampen Your Independence Day Long Weekend Plans?
On Thursday, Delhi-NCR and Mumbai woke up to heavy rain, and the weather department has already issued a red alert for the Capital. Severe waterlogging was noted in both the metro cities, throwing life out of gear, just before the much-anticipated Independence Day long weekend.
According to India Today, if your Independence Day long weekend getaway plans include travelling to the mountains, then the incessant rainfall might dampen your spirits. IMD has forecasted more showers in Delhi-NCR, Chandigarh, Punjab, Himachal and Uttarakhand over the weekend.
For Delhi, IMD predicted heavy rainfall for August 15 and 16. Schools in several parts of Uttar Pradesh were closed on Thursday due to heavy rainfall. On Wednesday, cloudbursts and flash floods affected Kullu, Shimla, and Lahaul-Spiti districts of Himachal Pradesh. As per the Times of India report, more than 300 roads across Himachal Pradesh remained blocked due to the incessant downpours. This Independence Day long weekend, travel across North India requires caution and awareness of weather updates.

IMD Issues Alerts For Several Areas
Heavy rains were reported across Telangana, ahead of the Independence Day long weekend. Monsoon activity intensified in the state, with three regions observing over 20 cm of rainfall. On August 13, several flights to and from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad were cancelled and delayed because of the weather conditions.
In Andhra Pradesh, heavy rain has been forecasted along the southern and northern coasts. Parts of West Bengal and Sikkim are likely to receive heavy rainfall on August 15. Goa, a top favourite Independence Day long weekend getaway, will see rainfall till August 19. So, if you’re in Goa, make sure you plan your travels accordingly.
