Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar passed away in a tragic plane crash in Maharashtra’s Baramati. On Wednesday morning, he was flying from Mumbai to Baramati, when during a landing attempt, the small plane met with an accident. Four others onboard also passed away in the accident.

According to NDTV, Ajit Pawar’s plane took off from Mumbai at around 8 AM and crashed during a landing attempt an hour later. He was flying there to attend four important public meetings. While it hasn’t been confirmed yet, reports suggest that the aircraft’s pilot as well as the security personnel onboard passed away in the fatal crash on Wednesday morning.

Photos and videos circulating on social media show flames and thick smoke and the mangled remains of the aircraft. Ambulances and rescue workers rushed to the scene and took those involved in the accident to the nearby hospitals. While the exact cause of the crash during landing is still unclear, authorities say more details are awaited.

What We Know So Far

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has confirmed the news of the Ajit Pawar plane crash and death on Wednesday. As per Moneycontrol, preliminary reports have shown that the small plane ran into trouble during its final approach and crashed on the runway. This has caused temporary suspension of all airport operations with delays to both arriving and departing flights.

Union defence minister Rajnath Singh and Union Minister Giriraj Singh took to X to express grief and extended condolences.
