On Tuesday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis launched the ‘RuPay On-The-Go’ National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) – a smart card for the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation in Mumbai. Read on to know about the benefits of the card.

Maharashtra Govt Launches NCMC Smart Cards

As per a report by Mid-day, the launch ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Ajit Pawar, and MSRTC Chairman Pratap Sarnaik, along with the senior ministers and MSRTC officials. The RuPay One-the-Go National Common Mobility Card (NCMC)-enabled smart card for the MSRTC was launched at Mantralaya in Mumbai. During the event, the beneficiaries were handed the newly launched NCMC smart cards. The Aadhar-linked NCMC smart cards will be distributed to a wide range of eligible passengers, like students, senior citizens, women, persons with disabilities, and others, for travel concessions.

How Will The Card Benefit The Passengers?

This card will allow concessional travel in MSRTC buses in a more easy and hassle-free manner. The card is also said to eliminate the need for manual verification processes, resulting in fewer delays and a more enhanced travel experience for passengers. According to the news portal, the officials stated that the NCMC-enabled system will not only simplify fare collection but will also bring better transparency to the overall travel process. The system aims to minimise discrepancies and improve operational efficiency by digitising concession benefits.

The NCMC’s smart cards are part of a broader effort by the Maharashtra government to adopt digital solutions and modernise its public transport infrastructure. The card promises to do both for passengers and service providers. With the launch of the NCMC smart card, Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) is expected to take an important step forward in aligning with national digital mobility initiatives, offering a better, user-friendly travel experience across Maharashtra.
