‘Namo Tourism Information and Facility Centres’ is a new initiative by the Maharashtra government aimed at boosting tourism at culturally rich heritage sites. As per a report by Business Standard, the government on Wednesday approved the establishment of four such centres at important heritage forts across the state.

These forts are: Raigad Fort, Pratapgad Fort, Shivneri Fort, and Salher Fort. The tourism centres will be developed under the Regional Tourism Development Scheme for 2025-26. The initiative aims to strengthen regional tourism infrastructure and enhance the visitor experience. Each fort will soon feature modern amenities, making visits more comfortable and easy for the tourists who come here.

₹20 Crore Sanctioned For The Project

According to a report by the Business Standard, the Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department has sanctioned ₹20 crore for the project. Around ₹5 crore will be allocated initially to the Directorate of Tourism for the project’s implementation.

A senior official told the Business Standard that these Namo Tourism Centres will soon become an integral part of Maharashtra’s tourism landscape. The centres will also make it easier for visitors to explore these age-old heritage and historical sites. Interestingly, the government is also planning to expand this initiative to 75 more tourist locations in the future.

The upcoming Namo Tourism Centres will be sustainably designed. They will promote local art, cuisine, culture, and handicrafts within the fort premises. The centres will also include visitor information kiosks, rest areas, sanitation blocks, and parking facilities. Apart from boosting tourism, the initiative is expected to benefit local communities by creating job opportunities.
