President Droupadi Murmu recently hosted Seychelles President Patrick Herminie at Rashtrapati Bhavan. A grand banquet was held in his honour. But what really caught attention was the food. From comforting soup to Malabari Parotta and Jolad Bhakri, here is what was on the menu.
Coastal Flavours For Seychelles President’s Banquet
Coastal Indian flavours clearly took centre stage at the banquet held for President Herminie. According to Mathrubhumi, the specially curated menu was described as “an inventive celebration of India’s rich culinary heritage,” and we could not agree more. The menu also reflected the centuries-old cultural ties between India and Seychelles. Official X page of the President of India also took to X and wrote, “President Droupadi Murmu received President Patrick Herminie of Seychelles at Rashtrapati Bhavan and hosted a banquet in his honour.”
The banquet showcased dishes from India’s coastal regions, including Kerala, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Most dishes used ingredients like coconut, kokum, bananas, jackfruit, lentils and rice. These ingredients are staples of everyday coastal cooking. The White Pumpkin And Coconut Soup, served with Mini Idiyappam and Curry Leaf Oil, definitely has us drooling.

Salads, Starters And More
Wait till you read more about the dishes served! The salad course included Koshambari With Charred Pineapple And Yoghurt Foam, a creative twist on the classic South Indian salad made with split mung beans and cucumber. Next came Jackfruit and Banana Blossom Skewers, a signature speciality from Kerala. Gujarat made its presence felt with Mini Dhoklas. For the pre-mains, guests were served Sorekai Majjige Huli, Yam Thoran and Raw Banana Thoran.
The Sorekai dish featured stuffed bottle gourd in a Kannada-style yoghurt sauce. This was paired with Malabari Parotta and Jolad Bhakri, as per the menu. According to Mathrubhumi, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan also attended the banquet, which followed President Murmu’s formal reception of President Herminie on his first state visit to India.
