Do you like eating samosa, vada pav, pizzas, and chole bhature? These are some of our favourite comfort foods, right? But have you ever thought about how much walking or exercise it would take to burn the calories we gain from them? A Mumbai-based orthopaedic surgeon has now revealed exactly how long you will need to walk to burn calories from these junk food items. Curious to know? Keep reading!
Mumbai Surgeon Reveals How Long You Need To Walk To Burn Calories Of Junk Food
Be it a family gathering at home or simply when we crave junk food or sweets, we often end up ordering samosas, pizzas, vada pav, chole bhature, and more. We eat them within 10-15 minutes, right? But who would have thought that to burn the calories we gain from these foods, we might have to invest more time than we take to eat them?
Recently, a Mumbai-based orthopaedic surgeon, Dr Manan Vora, shared on Instagram the amount of walking we would have to do to burn the calories from some of our favourite comfort foods. Here’s what he revealed:
- One samosa or vada pav (250 calories): 50 minutes of walking
- One slice of pizza (285 calories): 1 hour of walking
- One packet of chips (330 calories): a little over 1 hour of walking
- One piece of gulab jamun (180 calories): 35 minutes of walking
- One plate of chole bhature (600 calories): around 2 hours of walking
Dr Manan Vora broke down the approximate calorie content and the time required to burn it off. He ended his post by saying that we don’t actually need to give up our favourite food. We just need to balance it by incorporating exercise like walking and eating mindfully.
Enjoy Your Comfort Food, But Balance It With Walking
His video clearly explained that instead of mindlessly eating junk food, we can balance it out with walking. The Mumbai surgeon also gave us a time frame, which means we can keep a target in mind to burn off those calories. It helps our minds stay on a target without feeling guilty about eating what we love.
However, you should also remember that forcing yourself to walk just because you enjoyed a gulab jamun isn’t a healthy mindset. Instead of being rigid, we can find balance by eating mindfully and practising portion control, too.
Many of his followers were impressed with his post. One wrote, “Mindfully enjoy your favourite foods, exercise more, and stay regular. It’s about awareness, not restriction.” Another commented, “I wanted someone to exactly create one such video where they tell you how much walking is needed to burn this and that food, etc, you’re amazing. Good for me, I walk 2 hours per day.”
This video not only sheds light on how walking can help burn calories but also reminds us not to restrict our diet. We can enjoy our favourite foods while staying active. The best part? Walking is one of the easiest exercises. It doesn’t need any special equipment. You just need a park and some willpower.
