Mumbai-Ahmedabad Section Of India’s First Bullet Train To Open By 2029; Surat Station To Feature World-Class Amenities

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project is moving steadily. The 50 km stretch of India’s first bullet train between Surat and Bilimora in Gujarat will open in 2027, and by 2029, the entire section between Mumbai and Ahmedabad will be operational. But that’s not all; the forthcoming bullet train station at Surat will have world-class facilities too!

India’s First Bullet Train: Surat Station To Redefine Travel

Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw and Surat MP Mukesh Dalal recently visited the Surat bullet train station, which is currently under construction. The visit aimed to review ongoing track installation works of this much-anticipated Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor project. @AshwiniVaishnaw also posted the update on his official X account. 

As per a report by India TV, the station will feature spacious interiors, waiting lounges, nurseries, restrooms, retail shops, escalators, and more. Natural light from skylights and airy platforms will provide a serene travel environment. The station will also have clear signage for easy navigation for the elderly, families with children, and differently-abled passengers.

The Corridor To Be Fully Functional By 2029

The station will also boast an eco-friendly design with sustainable features such as rainwater harvesting, low-water-consumption sanitary fittings, eco-friendly paints, and reduced artificial lighting.

Ashwini Vaishnaw shared with The Hindu that the overall progress of India’s first bullet train is on track. The first 50 km section between Surat and Bilimora will open by 2027. By 2028, the entire Thane-Ahmedabad section will be operational, and authorities are aiming for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor to be fully operational by 2029! 

You would also like to know that the main line has a speed potential of 320 km/h, while the loop line will run at 80 km/h. Modern technologies are also being used to ensure safe and efficient train movement, significantly transforming connectivity between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. Once fully operational, the bullet train will cover the distance between these two cities in just two hours and seven minutes!
