Comedian Abijit Ganguly has sparked a conversation on social media, and it has nothing to do with his standup but Mumbai’s crumbling infrastructure. Taking to X, he voiced his frustration and highlighted the city’s worsening traffic, pothole-ridden roads, poor drainage, and shrinking public transport. His post caught the attention of netizens, and here’s what they have to say about it.
Comedian Abijit Ganguly Slams Mumbai Authorities Over Civic Woes
Abijit Ganguly took to X to talk about how Mumbai is “becoming just tougher to live in every passing day.” In the post, he talked about the civic woes of the city and how he has “literally seen the deterioration of this city in the past few years.” He spoke about how the “traffic management is chaos, traffic sense is gone, roads are full of potholes, drainage is a figment of imagination, public transport like buses are being made less, everything is just getting worse.”
He slammed the city authorities and pointed out that poor civic sense among citizens isn’t the only issue. He listed out a few incidents and mentioned that if Indian authorities are capable of managing big issues, then they can “manage traffic for sure. We have to stop this self/victim-blaming mentality.”
Netizens Share Their Two Cents
Comedian Abijit Ganguly’s post on Mumbai’s deteriorating state has struck a chord online, garnering over 218K views and hundreds of reactions and comments. While many netizens agreed with his concerns, others shared different perspectives on the issue.
One user said, “Exactly. People keep saying ‘civic sense is missing,’ but that’s just an easy excuse. If authorities could enforce demonetisation overnight or lock down the whole country, they could fix traffic and urban mess too if they really cared. It’s not about people, it’s about intent”
“Mumbai is overcrowded, over-expensive, over-spirited, and the infrastructure is not up to par to handle the crowd, unlike Tokyo and NYC. The traffic management, flood management, and chaos management are like a ticking time bomb. Just rehabilitate in neighbouring regions. In fact, Navi Mumbai is also exploding with more migration, but because it’s a pre-planned city and NMMC, CIDCO has done a good job,” another one suggested.
Disagreeing with Abijit Ganguly, one user said, “Even if you blame authorities, you have to blame yourself; we have made ‘authorities’, if you believe India is democratic.”
Feeling the heartbreak, one X user wrote, “Same here, grew up in Mumbai, and it’s heartbreaking to see the city change like this. Infrastructure is a mess, traffic is chaos… somewhere in all this development, we lost the essence of the city.”
