Littering on streets is already a bad habit for many. But things get worse when people start dumping garbage around clean and beautiful tourist spots and important landmarks, too. A video is now making rounds on social media showing a man casually dumping garbage into the sea near the iconic Gateway of India in Mumbai. The clip has angered netizens online.

Once again, the discussion around civic sense and responsibility towards the country and the environment has been reignited online. A video posted by an X user, @drunkJournalist, shows a foreigner enjoying the view at the Gateway of India in Mumbai. Suddenly, a man arrives and dumps garbage from a bag straight into the sea, as if it were completely normal.
The foreigner asks him, “What is that?” When the man does not respond, the foreigner says that the man “just got out of his car and threw rubbish into the sea, which is not good.” The video shows the man calmly walking back to his car after dumping the garbage. What remains unclear is why he could not simply dump the waste in a dustbin instead of throwing it into the sea.

Netizens React With Anger
Just like us, netizens were angered by the incident. One user wrote, “Shameful”, while another commented, “Disgusting!” An X user also suggested that people who dump garbage on roads or into the sea should be fined heavily until they realise their mistake. Until strong penalties are enforced, people may not understand how damaging littering can be, especially at tourist spots like the Gateway of India, where many visitors and foreigners arrive every day.
One user also wrote, “We lack civic sense, but we have to change that. We need penalties, fines, signboards everywhere, orientation, awareness programs.” One X user commented, “Shame on that stupid guy.”
