Mumbai’s ever-growing metro network is rapidly changing how the city travels! The Metro Red Line is among Mumbai’s most anticipated projects. It is expected to ease travel across the city’s western corridor and offer a smoother commute for thousands. Scroll on to know more about it.

Mumbai Metro Red Line Routes

According to Times Now, Mumbai Metro Red Line will have 7, 7A, and 9 corridors, along with the proposed Line 13. IT will offer connectivity across residential, commercial, and transit hubs in Mumbai’s western corridor–from Dahisar to Mira-Bhayandar and eventually up to Virar.

The Line spans multiple phases and extensions, and will make travel seamless for commuters in western and northwestern Mumbai suburbs. Currently, Line 7–from Dahisar East to Gundavali–is the only operational line on this network. It is 16.5 km long and has been operational since 2023.

Mumbai Metro Red Line 7A is currently under construction and is likely to be completed by the end of this year. It is 3.2 km long and will operate along Gundavali (interchange with Lines 1 and 7), Sahar Road, and CSMIA T2 stations.

Line 9 is also under construction right now; it is expected to open for the public by December 2026. This 11 km corridor is likely to cover Dahisar East, Shimpoli, Kandarpada, Bhayandar East, and Mira Road stations.

All You Need To Know About This Line

Mumbai Metro Red Line will have interchanges with Line 1 (Blue Line), Line 2A (Yellow), and Line 3 (Aqua/Underground). It will also have direct airport access on Line 7A. This metro line will help ease traffic congestion on Western Express Highway and boost connectivity to areas like Mira Road, Bhayandar, and Virar.

According to the Times Now report, a major portion of the Mumbai Metro Red Line is expected to become fully operational by 2026-end. Lines 7, 7A, and 9, connecting Andheri to Mira-Bhayandar, are likely to open by next year and make the commute seamless for thousands of commuters. Another route, Line 13 to Virar, has been proposed and will greatly ease pressure on roads and local trains.
