Mumbai Metro is definitely the lifeline of the city, and the authorities are always introducing new facilities to make it more user-friendly. But now, a recent video of a woman carrying her cycle inside a metro coach has drawn attention to one of the city’s lesser-known commuter-friendly initiatives, garnering mixed reactions from netizens.

Mumbai Metro Cycle-Friendly Coach Goes Viral

Yes, Mumbaikars can carry their cycles inside the Mumbai Metro. This bicycle-friendly feature was launched in 2022 on Metro Lines 2A and 7 to promote eco-friendly travel and improve last-mile connectivity. However, it didn’t receive much attention until recently. A video posted by a user on social media has now gone viral, showing a woman effortlessly carrying her bicycle inside the metro and placing it at its designated spot. 

The user captioned the video, “This is a fantastic facility in the Mumbai metro. I wish to see more and more Mumbaikars using it.” Honestly, this built-in feature in the Mumbai Metro to park bicycles might look tricky at first, but it’s surprisingly simple. It’s especially useful for people who like cycling for exercise at parks located far from their homes.

Viral Video Sparks Mixed Reactions Online

The viral clip has now crossed over nine million views and has sparked mixed reactions among users. While many appreciated the initiative, others questioned its practicality. One user wrote, “No. That feature is not meant for a country like India. What will they do when ten people with bicycles show up? Stupid idea.” Another commented, “So, during peak time…. person with a bicycle occupies space meant for 4 people?” He pointed out that Mumbai Metro trains are often packed during peak hours, leaving little space for commuters, let alone bicycles.

One user appreciated the facility and wrote, “This is really awesome. This kind of feature is not available even in Danish trains, and Denmark is one of the few countries with a huge cycling culture.” Many others called it cool and expressed that it gave off  “European vibes” It’s clear that the feature is advanced and eco-friendly. But maintaining it in a crowded city like Mumbai might be challenging in the long run.
