Diwali, also known as the festival of lights, is all about happiness, community, and sharing smiles. The festivities were given a very unique touch this year by the Mumbai Police. In a remarkable act, they gave 800 lost and stolen cell phones back to their original owners. They gave hundreds of Mumbaikars a reason to celebrate that goes beyond fireworks, diyas, and mithai.

Mumbai Police Turn Diwali Into A Festival Of Joy

Under DCP Zone 6, the project was part of a specific campaign aimed at finding and returning lost and stolen property to its rightful owners. The touching news was posted by the Mumbai Police on Instagram with the caption, “A Special Diwali Return Gift.” Ringing happiness in the lives of Mumbaikars, DCP Zone 6 as part of a dedicated campaign to trace and return lost and stolen goods, handed over recovered valuables to their rightful owners today.”

Police officers were seen personally delivering phones to the owners in event photos. Naturally, everyone was overjoyed at having their lost belongings returned. It clearly shows that sometimes the simplest Diwali gifts are the most incredible and heartfelt.

This wasn’t the only effort this festive season. DCP Zone 2 brought smiles to citizens by returning recovered property worth ₹1.10 crore, including mobile phones, gold jewellery, and cash, in a ceremony held at the Royal Opera House, Mumbai. Both gestures underline a simple truth: Diwali is as much about giving and restoring joy as it is about lights, sweets, and celebrations.

Making Diwali Special For Those Around You

Inspired by this thoughtful gesture, there are many ways we can show our appreciation for those who work in the background, like maids, drivers, guards, and helpers, especially during festivals. Here are some simple yet meaningful ideas:

  • Your maids, drivers, and guards will feel appreciated if you give them a small gift of snacks, sweets, or necessities.
  • Offer your neighbours, the security guards, and delivery workers some homemade or store-bought sweets to spread some holiday cheer.
  • To make their festival season more cheerful, purchase decorations, festive sweets and diyas from nearby vendors.
  • Plan a Diwali get-together with nearby workers, neighbours, or assistants.
  • Make small, personalised gift bags to share with those who make your life easier.

This Diwali special initiative by Mumbai Police reminds us that this festival is not only about lights but also about sharing happiness.
