Incessant rainfall in Mumbai has significantly disrupted the lives of people in the city. With waterlogged roads, flight operations being interrupted, schools and colleges being shut, and local trains now getting impacted, here are the latest Mumbai weather updates.

For the past few days, the lives of Mumbaikars has come to a standstill. Heavy rainfall has not only caused severe waterlogging at several key locations but has also disrupted air travel, with many airlines issuing advisories. IMD has recorded the highest rainfall at Vikhroli (223.5 mm), followed by Santacruz (206.6 mm), Byculla (184 mm) and Bandra (132.5 mm). Mumbai is now under an orange alert as weather conditions continue to worsen.
According to a report by India.com, Mumbai local trains have also been impacted by the continuous downpour in the city. The Mumbai Division of Western Railways has now uploaded a list of cancelled trains on their X account. They further wrote, “Due to heavy waterlogging in the Mumbai region, Multiple local train services have been CANCELLED for today, 20th August 2025.” They also advised Mumbaikars to plan their commute accordingly.
Reportedly, services on the Central Railway’s Harbour Line remained suspended for more than 15 hours. The authorities finally restored them at 3 am on Wednesday.

8 People Have Lost Their Lives; Rescue Operations Underway
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde shared with India.com that the government has asked the relevant authorities to install more pumps for draining rainwater. As per his statement, 525 pumps were operational throughout Mumbai. Additionally, the city has six main pumping stations and 10 mini pumping stations. They are all working non-stop to bring the situation under control. Mumbai witnessed 350 mm of rain in 24 hours and 200 mm in just six hours.
According to the same report, heavy rains and floods also claimed at least eight lives in Maharashtra’s Nanded district after it witnessed flooding due to a cloudburst-like situation. Rescue teams moved around 350 people to safer locations after the Mithi River crossed the danger mark for a few hours. NDRF teams are now stationed in the city. They are overseeing rescue operations.
Authorities are awaiting more reports on the number of casualties across Maharashtra. Moreover, apart from the suspension of local trains, the continuous downpour has also led to the temporary closure of schools, colleges and government offices.
