On Thursday morning in Mumbai, a fire suddenly broke out on the 14th floor of a 23-storey residential building in Andheri West. The incident led to heavy smoke spreading through the building and left several residents trapped on the upper floors. Around 40 people were safely rescued. Fire Breaks Out At Sorrento Tower In Mumbai
According to a report by Mid-Day, the fire broke out around 10 am at Sorrento Tower near Country Club on Veera Desai Road. It is a residential building in Andheri West. The 23-storey residential building houses around 200 residents. The blaze trapped several people on the upper floors. Authorities managed to rescue nearly 30-40 residents from the 16th floor using the staircase. Three others, including a woman, were also moved to safety from a flat on the 15th floor using breathing apparatus. Ex-BJP MLA of Versova Constituency 164, Mumbai, Dr Bharati Lavekar also took to X and wrote, “Visited Sorento Society, Veera Desai Road, where a major fire incident reportedly occurred due to a short circuit. Thanks to the swift action of the fire brigade and emergency teams, the situation is now under control.”
As per a report by The Times of India, firefighters rushed to the spot and declared it a Level-I fire. While the blaze remained confined to the 14th floor, thick smoke spread across the entire building. Teams from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, local police, Adani Electricity, 108 ambulance services, and ward-level civic staff were present at the location. They handled the situation swiftly and ensured the safety of all residents. Officials suspect the fire may have been caused by an electrical wiring issue, though the exact reason has not been confirmed yet.

No Injuries Or Casualties Reported
According to Mid-Day, the building’s fire alarm system was activated in time. Security guards rushed to the 12th floor and managed to control the fire using around 38 fire extinguishers before the fire brigade arrived. Fire personnel later carried out rescue and ventilation operations. Smoke was cleared, and residents stranded on higher floors were safely assisted. Thankfully, no injuries or casualties have been reported so far.
As reported by Hindustan Times, the 14th floor houses the home of filmmaker Sandeep Singh. He is known for films like Mary Kom, Sarbjit, Safed, and more. Sandeep Singh was recently discharged from Kokilaben Hospital after undergoing hernia treatment. His close friend and actor, Ankita Lokhande, along with her husband, Vicky Jain, took him to their home, as he is still recovering from surgery. Actor Pushkar Jog, who also owns a flat in that building, was safely rescued during the evacuation.

Thankfully, everyone involved in the incident is safe. Officials are now awaiting further details on the exact cause of the fire.
