Mumbai To Get First Travelator Skywalk
Remember the moving walkways at Mumbai airport that make long walks feel effortless? Mumbaikars will soon get a similar experience. According to The Free Press Journal, Mumbai’s first travelator-equipped public skywalk is currently under construction and will provide a seamless connection between Metro Line 3 and the monorail.
The new skywalk will link the Mahalaxmi Metro station with the Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk Monorail station, which is the terminal station of the nearly 20-km Mumbai Monorail corridor connecting Chembur to South Mumbai. At present, commuters have to walk nearly 700 metres to switch between the two stations. Once operational, the travelator-equipped skywalk will significantly reduce walking time and make transfers much more convenient.

So, why is a travelator-equipped skywalk needed in Mumbai? Unlike escalators, travelators allow people to either walk or simply stand while being carried forward. They are especially useful for senior citizens, passengers travelling with luggage and people with reduced mobility.
Reportedly, the project is Mumbai’s first elevated public travelator outside an airport. In the future, it is planned to extend connectivity to Mahalaxmi railway station as well, creating a seamless interchange between the suburban railway, Metro and monorail networks.
