Delhi Metro

If you are a frequent commuter on the Delhi Metro, you must have heard the announcements made at every station. But now, get ready to listen to audio advertisements on four of its lines to boost non-fare revenue. Here’s everything you need to know about this new plan.

Audio Advertisements Planned On Delhi Metro

Delhi Metro commuters, you have a habit of watching ads between your favourite shows, right? Now, get ready to listen to them while on your way to your destination on the Metro. According to The Times of India, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is planning to introduce in-train audio commercials on four of its lines. These include the Red, Yellow, Blue and Magenta lines. The plan aims to increase its non-fare revenue.

Reportedly, the authorities are planning to strengthen DMRC’s earnings from non-ticketing sources while also positioning Metro trains as a premium advertising platform. Moreover, the initiative also intends to place the Delhi Metro alongside other global transit systems and airports that use audio advertisements as one of their revenue sources.

Ads Will Play During Silent Intervals

According to The Times of India, to implement the plan, DMRC has now floated tenders inviting companies to secure, market and manage in-train audio advertisements. These audio advertisements are currently planned on six trains each operating on the Red (Line 1), Yellow (Line 2), Blue (Line 3) and Magenta (Line 8) corridors.

Among these four routes, the Yellow Line offers 596 seconds of advertising inventory, the Red Line has 721 seconds, the Blue Line has 634 seconds, while the Magenta Line will offer 300 seconds for advertising. However, these advertisements will be broadcast only during silent intervals between the usual station announcements. Passenger information and safety messages will continue to receive top priority.
