Restaurants across India have either temporarily shut down or are operating at limited capacity due to the LPG shortage triggered by the ongoing West Asian conflict. However, the situation has not affected langar services at Golden Temple. The shrine management has assured devotees that there is no cooking gas shortage at the temple and that food services continue without disruption.
No LPG Crisis At Golden Temple; Langar Services Remain Unaffected
Despite reports of a nationwide LPG shortage, the Guru ka langar at the iconic Golden Temple continues as usual. According to The Times of India, the shrine uses around 25 LPG cylinders and serves over one lakh devotees daily. Despite this large-scale operation and the ongoing shortage across India, the shrine management has clarified that it is not facing any LPG crisis and that preparations and food service are running smoothly.
The Sri Guru Ramdas Ji Langar Hall at Golden Temple currently has 115 LPG refills in its inventory. According to The Times of India, the shrine is also set to receive a fresh delivery of 100 cylinders on Friday, and there is no immediate shortage of fuel supplies. At the same time, the management is preparing for any emergency. A shrine spokesperson said that over 500 quintals of firewood have been kept in reserve as a backup.

World’s Largest Community Kitchen Serves 1 Lakh Devotees Daily
Besides 25 LPG cylinders, the kitchen at Golden Temple uses 1,200 units of piped Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) every day to run what is widely called the world’s largest community kitchen. The shrine has been receiving CNG supply through an underground pipeline that became operational in 2019. More than one lakh devotees are served the famous Guru ka langar daily, and around 36 quintals of ‘karah parsad’ is prepared there every day, TOI reported.
