Man Goes Viral For His Integrated Farming In Odisha
An X user, @manas_muduli, recently posted a video of a farmer from Sundargarh, Odisha. The farmer is going viral because of his unique farming technique. The trellis system built over his pond helps him grow climbing vegetables like bottle gourd. Below that, he uses the pond for fish farming. This smart integrated farming system is an excellent example of better land utilisation and ensures higher income. He has two income sources from the same size of land. Isn’t that cool?
For those who don’t know, a trellis system uses a vertical support structure like wood, metal or netting to grow vegetables. It not only maximises garden space but also improves air circulation. The best part is that most of the produce stays off the ground and remains clean. This technique also makes harvesting easier for farmers.

Vertical Farming Helps Save Space
Vertical farming allows farmers to grow large quantities of food in small spaces. Moreover, these setups are easier to maintain. The vegetables often grow in uniform sizes and are less susceptible to pest damage. This farmer in Odisha is also using the pond below for fish farming at the same time.
Just like us, many netizens were amazed and shared their reactions online. One user wrote, “Very good stuff. More people should leverage this. Odisha badly needs a community-based farming group where new techniques could be shared freely among each other.” Another commenter wrote, “What an inspiring example of innovation rooted in tradition. This is the spirit of our farmers: resilient, resourceful, and always evolving with smart ideas.” Many X users called the method smart and profitable. Some users also appreciated the farmer’s self-made boat.
