A New Planetarium & Science Centre Inaugurated In Rourkela
President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated four major projects in Rourkela, Odisha, with an investment of ₹158 crore. These projects included a Planetarium and Science Centre, Nirmal Munda Parivesh Path, a Tribal Museum, and the Integrated Command and Control Centre. All these projects mark a significant milestone in Odisha’s development and also highlight its folk culture, heritage, and art traditions.
The Planetarium and Science Centre boosts scientific awareness, while the museum preserves the tribal heritage of the state. The announcement was made on the official X account of President of India. Not just that, the President also witnessed cultural performances by various groups and even visited an exhibition on tribal life put up by Self Help Groups.

Planetarium To Educate Students & Residents
According to a report by Kalinga TV, the projects, primarily spearheaded by the Rourkela Smart City and the local administration, focus on culture, science, and urban governance. The Planetarium and Science Centre in Chhend Colony will act as a major educational hub. It is designed specially to promote scientific research and education among students and residents. You should know that a planetarium is a theatre-like venue that entertains and educates people by displaying the night sky. Using special projectors, it displays stars, planets, astronomical phenomena, and much more.
The Tribal Museum, which is a state-of-the-art facility near Hockey Square, showcases the rich heritage, traditions, and artefacts of local tribal communities such as Munda, Khadia, Oram, and Bhuian. The Nirmal Munda Parivesh Path is a significant landmark and entrance gate named in honour of tribal leader and freedom fighter Nirmal Munda. Apart from that, the President also inaugurated the Integrated Command and Control Centre and a mega recreational park for public leisure.
